Saudi Arabia’s Ambitious Leap in Tourism: Aiming for 70 Million Visitors Annually by 2030:
As part of its colossal $800 billion initiative to emerge as one of the premier global travel destinations, Saudi Arabia has ramped up its tourism aspirations, now targeting a remarkable 70 million international tourists annually by 2030.
According to Tourism Minister Ahmed Al Khateeb, this uplifted goal from an earlier target of 50 million is in line with the vast investments pouring into the development of resorts, a new airline, and the promotion of the Kingdom’s rich historical and cultural treasures. This year, Saudi Arabia anticipates a turnout of between 25 to 30 million visitors.
A significant portion of the investment is funneled towards the creation of luxury hotels and enchanting resorts along the picturesque Red Sea coast. The nation is also enhancing historical jewels like the Al Ula desert region and Diriyah, which traces back to the roots of the Saudi royal lineage.
This enthusiastic boost in tourism is a cornerstone of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s visionary strategy to shift the nation’s $1.1 trillion economy away from its traditional oil-reliance. By 2030, the goal is for tourism to constitute a whole 10% of the nation’s GDP, presenting a diversified source of foreign revenue.
Complementing this, the government is eyeing an increase in total annual tourist trips, combining both international and domestic travels, from an earlier estimate of 100 million to a robust 150 million by the end of this decade.
