The Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU) has taken a monumental step toward empowering women in sports with the launch of a new women’s football development initiative. This project not only promotes female participation in sports but also opens doors for aspiring women coaches to step into the world of football, transforming the sports landscape in Saudi Arabia.
A Collaborative Effort
This initiative is a collective achievement, brought to life through partnerships with the Saudi Football Federation, AlUla Sports Club, the RCU Sports Sector, and the French Agency for AlUla Development. Together, these organizations are breaking barriers and creating opportunities for women in sports.
Workshops That Inspire
The program includes hands-on workshops and awareness sessions designed to inspire and educate. With 21 participants, including physical education teachers, university students, and sports enthusiasts, the sessions focus on fitness, coaching techniques, and the fundamentals of sports education. These workshops are paving the way for women to make their mark in the world of football.
Coaching Certifications for Aspiring Leaders
One of the project’s highlights is the opportunity for participants to earn the coveted “D” license in football coaching. This certification sets the stage for further qualifications, equipping participants with the tools they need to lead and inspire on and off the field.
Real-World Experience
To ensure practical learning, the program includes a mentorship workshop in Madinah. Participants will work alongside the AlUla Sports Club women’s football team, gaining hands-on experience in designing and running training sessions. It’s a unique chance for women to refine their skills and build confidence as future coaches.
Building a Community of Female Coaches
The journey doesn’t end with the workshops. AlUla Sports Club plans to recruit some participants as community football coaches. This will not only enhance the quality of life in AlUla but also nurture young female players, creating a ripple effect that benefits future generations.
Expanding Horizons
Looking ahead, the project aims to grow even further. Plans include expanding the program to involve more trainees in the 2025 Girls’ Schools League and introducing workshops in other sports. This initiative is setting the foundation for a thriving community of empowered women athletes and coaches.
